Real people. Real progress. The stress-free way to master Catalan.
By January 2023, we had been together for a couple of years, but Alex’s Catalan was stuck in neutral. After spending time in Catalonia feeling lost among Catalan speakers and relying on Christina to translate every interaction, we decided it was time to do something about it.
Instead of burying our heads in overwhelming textbooks, we found a smarter, more sustainable approach. We carved out time each week to record a short podcast. This gave Alex a way to practice Catalan on the go, making steady progress week by week without the burnout. You could say it was "the lazy way." 🦥
We didn’t expect anyone to listen. With so few Catalan-learning resources available, we assumed there wasn’t a demand. To our surprise, listeners reached out to share how helpful the podcast was. Your support transformed a personal practice session into a thriving community, inspiring us to keep going and create even more materials to help you progress. 📚
Hi! My name is Christina. I’m originally from Barcelona but have lived in Birmingham, UK since I was 6. I speak Catalan every day as my mum and that side of the family are Catalan. Growing up in a multi-lingual household gave me a desire to learn more languages and I currently share that passion with my students as a Lead Practitioner in Spanish. 👩🏻🏫
Alongside Spanish, I have taught French, German and even Catalan in schools! I love all things languages - I also learned some Italian at university although my main degree was actually in Psychology! I am very interested in human behaviour and researching how we best learn, particularly when it comes to learning languages. 🧠
I have a passion for travel and although I've been lucky enough to travel to many places already, I want to see so much more of the world!
One of my other big loves is animals, especially dogs. If I could I would own like 10 dogs - doesn't that sound like heaven to you?🐶
Hello, my name is Alex. I’m from Wolverhampton in the UK, not quite as exciting as Barcelona!
That meant I grew up in a household that only had one language spoken which was English, unless you count "Black Country" as another. During my time at school I took French as a GCSE but unlike riding a bicycle, if you dont use a language you lose a language and I unfortunately remember very little of it. 🙈
I have spent the last couple years working as a HGV Driver but have a love for being creative on computers which has come in handy in helping Christina in producing things such as this website and content you will find within the courses. 💻
Learning a new language is a huge leap, and we are absolutely thrilled that you've chosen to share that journey with us. Whether you're tuning into the podcast on your commute, tackling our courses, or just reading this page, thank you for being a part of this incredible community. We couldn't do this without you. Moltes gràcies! 🥂
